How To Create Goals That Will Lead To Success

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

What is the importance of these goals? These goals guide us to where we want to go which is why we need them. Without goals, we are basically wandering around in the darkness hoping that we reach the right place. A motivational tool that gives us the right boost of energy to work towards them is another purpose of goals.

If you ask any motivational speaker, one of the key points they will tell you to achieve success is to write down your goals. But wait, there’s more to this story. Just writing them down doesn’t give you that energy boost that you need to achieve success but there is a secret to goal setting.

The first thing you need to do is start dreaming again and these dreams doesn’t refer to the ones that you have when you sleep at night but rather the dreams you had when you were kids like living up in a mansion when you grow up. If you dream big but only reach half way, then that’s still half way farther than if you didn’t dream at all so you shouldn’t be afraid to dream big.

Ok, so let’s talk about your mansion. Writing down a mansion in your Goals list isn’t enough, is it? You also need to write down the details. Determine what kind of architecture it would be. Is a fairy tale type castle what you have in mind? Or maybe you’re thinking about an Italian Villa. How many bedrooms should it have? Having an indoor pool is a great idea as well.

In order for you to picture them clearly in your mind, you need to find images of some of the things that you want and this is another secret to goal setting. Unlike if you were just thinking about the word ‘mansion,’ doing this will give your goals a sense of realism. When you find pictures of indoor swimming pools or pictures of Italian Villas or anything that you desire, then you can try imagining yourself there.

If you are a car guy, then it’s likely you have a few cars on your list. Right now, you might drive a BMW, but that’s not enough. If you want to hit it big you have to dream big so add more BMWs, Porches, and even Ferraris if you want. The colors that you want and all the options that each car provides is what you need to know about. It will seem much more real if you get down with all the details.

Even though you can start with making a list of your goals, you still need to go farther. Getting into the details is a must. So is finding images. Try to imagine that you already own those items. Doing this will only help you in whatever venture you choose to go with.

Staying On Task - How to Be Better at Time Management

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

We all procrastinate from time to time. Usually a small dose of procrastination is harmless. However for others still it can spell disaster and mean the difference between getting things done and not. If this is the type of person you are it’s most likely as easy as fixing your time management skills. Fortunately this is a skill that most people can master easily. Cut down on your distractions and work hard to develop your skills. Here are some time management tips that anybody can use to help them increase their focus and productivity.

While mapping out your goals and your day is good, it is also good to be flexible. You have to be open to the unexpected, and it can be stressful to impose too much structure on your routine. It becomes more difficult to focus on the tasks you have to complete when you’re tense and uptight. Learn to let some things slide for the sake of your sanity. You can do this and still stay focused on your important objectives. What it does mean is that you don’t have to panic if something you planned to do in the morning has to be put off until the afternoon. In such cases, just go with the flow. Too much structure is not good for your productivity, or even your health!

Begin each day by making a list of the things you need to accomplish before you go to bed that night. After you’ve got them all on paper begin ordering the list by priority. You’ll want to put the items that need to be done first up top and those that can be fit in later near bottom. You can now use this organized list as a “to do” list. The feeling of satisfaction you get by completing a to do list at the end of the day cannot be compared to any other feeling. These lists will save you the time and frustration of wondering what you should do next, instead you can ask what’s next on the list.

Time management experts agree that one of the most important skills you need to learn to better manage your time is delegation. It’s hard to be efficient if you have to do everything yourself. If you delegate some of the less important but time consuming activities, you’ll have more time for truly important ones. This way your day will not be spent on hundreds of trivial tasks and you will be more productive and creative. If you spend too much time on trivial tasks, they can be a real distraction. Delegation is something that many people have difficulty with. If you make it a habit, though, it will soon feel perfectly normal.

You have a lot of options for management skills. Time management is possible no matter what your situation is now. All you have left to do now is begin making some new habits, good habits. You won’t ever have to worry about losing a day to daydreaming again and it won’t take to much time either.

Success - How Making Powerful Decisions Now Dictate the Results You Want Tomorrow

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Success isn’t something that can be achieved overnight. However, over time, anything can be accomplished. Most people are caught up in wishing, dreaming, and hoping that they will see a better tomorrow. They subconsciously believe that what they want cannot be obtained, and that their "dreams" will always be just that - dreams. Because of this faulty way of thinking, most people do not make it far in life.

By altering the way that you think about things you can alter your future. What you have believed whether in the past or in the present is what has brought you to your current reality. For example, consider the individual who is constantly told they will never achieve anything and believed what they were told. As a result that same person is more than likely in a low-paying job, living in a small apartment somewhere and struggling day to day.

But on the flipside of the coin is the person who believes that what they want they can achieve because they believe in their own abilities. The view life positively and simply will not devote their time and energy to worry or self-doubt. Negative things that others say are disregarded and they focus themselves wholeheartedly to achieving what they want to accomplish.

Whether a person is successful or not is all based on what they truly believe in their innermost being. The good news is that beliefs can change and if you are someone that wants to change your present situation you can do so by beginning with the little decisions you make today. In this way you will alter your future but requires that you focus on the here and now and on how you live your life.

The first thing you should do is change your mind. Of course this may seem difficult in the beginning because the way we think is habitual. But your habit of negative thinking can be changed and the way to do this is to believe in yourself. Success can also be realized when you become more action-oriented.

To accomplish more you need to manage your time properly and the best way to do this is to create a daily list of things you need to do. Begin with those things you do not particularly enjoy doing because by starting with these one or two things you will benefit more.

Rather than waste your time and energy on things that will have little or no positive effects on your life rather deal with those things that will make the most difference. Over time you will begin to see the changes in your life. Because you are achieving the things you set out to accomplish your self-confidence will grow.

Everyone has dreams and those who are focused, who believe in their capabilities, these are the people that turn dreams into reality. Identify what you want and then focus yourself on working toward making it a reality. This is vital to success and once you have done this you will then be able to concentrate on taking the proper steps toward achieving the success you both want and deserve.

Investing In Management Training In 2011? Why You Can’t Afford Not To

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

For many businesses and organisations money is still tight. You have to do more, with less; and one of the key areas of your budget you’re likely to prune is training - in particular, management training.

Trouble is, as a manager you’re likely to find increased challenges when you’re asking your people to work harder, change their working conditions and reduce the resources they have available.

And people problems need skilled, confident, inspiring managers - more than ever before! Having worked now with thousands of managers over the years, and still a practising manager myself, I see time and time again, managers struggling

- with “difficult” staff;

- with de-motivated staff;

- with underperforming staff;

- with appraising staff,

- with recruiting the right staff;

- with how best to develop their staff and even with unsupportive line managers of their own!

Whew! As I often say - when it comes to managing; heat and kitchen come to mind! I could go on but I guess you get the picture? When you look at that list above, it’s clear we expect managers to take on some extremely challenging situations and yet research by a number of organisations such as Gallup, CIPD, and others reveals many managers feel they are being asked to do things for which they have never been given training.

Bottom line is, many managers were promoted because they were good at the job they did before - not necessarily because they had the excellent people skills they’re going to need to deal with some of those daunting challenges.

It’s clear we expect managers to take on some extremely challenging situations and yet research by a number of organisations such as Gallup, CIPD, and others reveals many managers feel they are being asked to do things for which they have never been given training and for which they feel a distinct lack of confidence. And how many managers would own up to that? Too few. What are the implications of all this? Does it really matter? Does it make a difference to the outcome if a line manager is feeling uncertain how best to tackle some of the most common people issues? Ruth Spellman, CEO of the Chartered Management Institute says this about training:

“If you think it’s expensive to have really competent people, try incompetent.”

After all - how much does it cost you in wasted time dealing with conflict? (OPP Research , 2008, shows an average of 12 days a year are spent dealing with conflict in the workplace - that’s more than time lost to absence!) What’s that worth to you?

Study after study shows a huge proportion of employees leave bosses, not companies.

Are there managers who, despite tough circumstances still seem to inspire and motivate their staff and maintain loyalty and good performance? Absolutely! And if you had a company full of such skilled managers - what difference would that make to your bottom line? In my experience, as with all employees, managers want to do a good job. But with the exception of a very few, naturally talented and skilled communicators most managers come to the role with little or no understanding of basic human psychology and how to successfully and consistently apply techniques which will ensure they get the best out of themselves and others.

So as we begin 2011, rather than take the simplest, and least creative route of putting all management development “on hold”, why not take the time to ask a more creative question:

“How can we still support management training despite a lower budget?”

You may not be able to justify the “bells and whistles” programme you had planned - but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways you can still give some support.

After all - you might actually find it more than repays your investment!

Effectiveness At Work Requires Good Time Management Skills

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Many of us aim to get our work in a right manner. Well, that is not always the case. Sometimes, even hard work does not produce the necessary results. It signals towards the lack of good techniques.

On the same lines like others, I also desire to do work in a way that it produces results that favor me. I am aware of the fact that time is really important.

I have luckily improved in the previous few years. This is owing to the fact that I have consciously tried to learn the art of working smart. I have tried to gain from the experience and habits of those, who have been successful in achieving a lot of success. I have listed a few of those techniques in this article.

The first tip cannot be stressed enough. It is about prioritizing. Many of us get so caught in doing the unimportant stuff that we fail to dedicate enough time to the most important tasks. If you have a major project due, concentrate on it. Leave the lower priority assignments for some other time.

Another strategy that has helped me a long way is the use of a timer. It is helpful to delicate to devote some short period of time to a specific time. Set a time duration, in which you should only be concentrating on that task. During that time window, do not check mails, text or make calls. This trick works wonder. It prevents you from getting distracted. A lot of work can be done this way. Multitasking is very distracting.

Lastly, if the things are not going your way, busy yourself in something else. For instance, last night I wanted to get some work done. However, the internet will not work. Therefore, I gave up and started on something else. It is better than getting all frustrated.

You can increase your efficiency quite easily. Rather than waiting for something to finish a certain task, you can finish the tasks that you can in the available time.

All these tips will aid you becoming more and more productive. You will also make time for yourself, which is equally important.

Techniques To Maximize The Use Of Your Time When Working

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

When it comes to work rate and efficiency, you will notice that you never stand on flat ground. There are times when it will take you forever to get a simple task done where as there are times when you will do it in a short time. What matters is output.

I in most cases spend a lot of time performing some chores. Actually, most of us do yet time is very precious.

Despite all the hard work, I have with time learnt how to be more efficient and in that sense more productive. This came by learning how to observe other people’s techniques around me. I have found these three tips that stood out.

1) Begin with the top most important work. Often people keep pushing forward important work and pretend to be busy by doing work that is less important. As a result, procrastination is being cultivated. You better deal with the important stuff and put it to rest.

2) You should not multi task important things. This will slow you down as much as you think that you are saving on time. Instead, set some time apart for each task. For example, if you select a certain hour as article writing time, you are not supposed to be catching up on your emails.

Once you have started giving dedicated time to certain jobs, you will find out that your work rate is really improving.

3) If you are trying hard and nothing seems to be happening during a task, take a breather. This will be able to help you clear your mind and come back to see things in a whole new perspective. This is very true if you are writing articles or doing some normally productive work.

These tricks will get you doing your work in the right time. You will no longer be fumbling in indecision.

Thursday, December 16th, 2010

Simply stating that time management is the management of time is not an accurate time management definition. First the background by bringing into focus the concept of life management which should be quite self explanatory, right? The quality of life that one lives is guided by how well we manage the different facets of our lives. Broadly these are physical health, financial well being and social interactions. Tips To Prepare Well For Hectic Mornings

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Parents all over the world would agree with me, when I say that mornings are the most hectic time of the day for us. However, if you make some plans before time, I can assure you that you can save a lot of time, and still get everything done.

The best option can be to try and get some of the work done the night before. This can include washing dishes, preparing the lunch, taking out the uniforms and other clothes, etc. Also ensure that your kids get their stuff ready at night too.

Keep a stock of breakfast foods like yogurts and cereals, which will child, will enjoy eating, it will make them healthy and most of all, you will not have to waste any time in preparing them.

One more trick you can use, so as to save some time from your schedule is to keep the TV off in the morning. This will ensure that your children don’t waste time watching TV. They can be active in getting ready for school.

You can let your children watch TV, after they have prepared all their stuff and done everything to get ready for school.

Organizing everything would be the best option to be followed, since it would make the final process fast paced. You can separate all the items according to their priority or you can have each child’s stuff in the separate place.

Small things like hooks near the front door, to hang the school bags and jackets, would be wonderful to save time. Also, there can be small buckets, where each child can store his/her small belongings like ID cards, or locker keys, etc.

All in all, what can ensure a lot of time saving is the fact that you keep control over yourself. The more relaxes you are, the more it will be better for you to try and get everything done within time.

Advice For Parents On How To Prepare For A Busy Day

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Mornings are considered to be the busiest time of the day for the parents. Apparently it might look that one can’t get all the things done in early hours but if some proper planning is done then the things would be far too manageable.

A simple example is that the receding night can be utilized to perform most of the tasks that can be done earlier like making lunch and laying the clothes out. Some responsibility falls on the children as well and they can do all the preparation for the school in the preceding night.

Having food items pre-stored in the pantries can also be a great time saving option for the parents. They can store certain food items that can have enough energy and can be prepared in a flash in the morning time. These may include the cereals, yogurt and the fruit items. All these things can be a part of a balanced breakfast.

Much of the time is wasted by the children by watching TV in the mornings so if they don’t sit for long in there then they can save a considerable amount of time for their preparation for school.

It depends on the parents if they want their children to allow watching TV after doing all the necessary things like cleaning their teeth, having breakfast and dressing up.

Having being organized is another key issue that can be of much importance in terms of saving time. If the children have a separate area containing all their stuff then it can save a lot of time.

For example hooks can be installed and baskets can be placed in the house for hanging jackets and storing keys and managing other similar and necessary stuff.

Relaxing can be a key as well because sometimes relaxing for a minute taking deep breaths and getting back your energy can help you do things in a quick manner and you can get through that time easily.
