Advice For Parents On How To Prepare For A Busy Day

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Mornings are considered to be the busiest time of the day for the parents. Apparently it might look that one can’t get all the things done in early hours but if some proper planning is done then the things would be far too manageable.

A simple example is that the receding night can be utilized to perform most of the tasks that can be done earlier like making lunch and laying the clothes out. Some responsibility falls on the children as well and they can do all the preparation for the school in the preceding night.

Having food items pre-stored in the pantries can also be a great time saving option for the parents. They can store certain food items that can have enough energy and can be prepared in a flash in the morning time. These may include the cereals, yogurt and the fruit items. All these things can be a part of a balanced breakfast.

Much of the time is wasted by the children by watching TV in the mornings so if they don’t sit for long in there then they can save a considerable amount of time for their preparation for school.

It depends on the parents if they want their children to allow watching TV after doing all the necessary things like cleaning their teeth, having breakfast and dressing up.

Having being organized is another key issue that can be of much importance in terms of saving time. If the children have a separate area containing all their stuff then it can save a lot of time.

For example hooks can be installed and baskets can be placed in the house for hanging jackets and storing keys and managing other similar and necessary stuff.

Relaxing can be a key as well because sometimes relaxing for a minute taking deep breaths and getting back your energy can help you do things in a quick manner and you can get through that time easily.

Time Is On Our Side; Yes It Is!

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

If you were asked to choose, what would be your answer: Time is on “our side,” time is neutral, or time is “against” you? Did you know your answer is neither right nor wrong, simply your perspective. Nobody’s perspective is right or wrong. It’s just a perspective. So, you ask, what’s this article about?

Though your perspective does not make your answer true, it does have an impact on your life. More significantly, your choice will determine how you choose to utilize “time.” The moment you establish a perspective, you predictably reveal how you’ll experience your life… proving your perspective.

Time doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t give more time to one person and less to another. We all measure time the same way, like weight is measured in ounces & pounds. It’s completely objective. How we view it is subjective. You’d make different choices if you knew that over your lifetime, you were limited to the use of 100 gallons of water. If, instead you believed there to be an infinite supply, you’d behave very differently. It’s exactly the same concept with time.

There’s a perfect lesson about time in this. When we know how much of something we have, we change how that “something” is used. How can you use time effectively to accomplish a goal, if you have no idea how much of it you have? In addition, consider organizing and coordinating your work with other tasks on your to-do list, and your effective use of time becomes all the more important.

It isn’t about time management. It’s about the utilization of the time you have. It’s impossible to manipulate the supply of time, in the same way; you can’t manage the supply of water to the entire world. But, what you can do is manage the time you have. Time passes, the minutes tick by. You can’t change that, but you can be efficient, and effective with what you do while they pass away.

Assume you have one week for a project and this project could easily be done by a first grader in less than five minutes. Would knowing this information have an effect on time utilization? Sure. Imagine that with this scenario, someone asks you if you could run to the grocery store. Your response would likely be yes.

Now let’s shift a couple of things. Your project is a complicated, logistical problem that requires a lot of research, and hours of writing. It’s due by midnight. Now your same friend asks you to run to the grocery store. Are you a little less amenable to interrupting your work?

When you compare the two scenarios, you clearly see that knowing how much time you have and the time required to complete the task will change your utilization of that time.

If you have 5 steps that need to be taken before you can accomplish your goal or complete your project then utilizing time properly can assist you on that path. By utilizing the correct amount of time on each task, and doing so in the best order, you can maximize your efforts and results and get the task done within the allotted time. Time is just a measurement but the truth is that if you are not utilizing your time properly, no amount of time in the world is going to do it for you.

There is an old adage: if you need something done, ask a busy person to do it. This may be counterintuitive because a busy person has less free time but it is nonetheless true. Busy people are busy because they get things done and therefore more work is asked of them. People with an abundance of free time usually have it for a specific reason - they haven’t earned trust to do tasks or they don’t care enough to get them done on time. Which person are you?

Like we said above, time is the great equalizer. We all have the same amount of time allotted to us. There are no excuses… it simply comes down to how effectively we utilize the time we have.

Live in Abundance, in the present!

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

Andy Dufresne, a character from the movie, The Shawshank Redemption, says, “Either get busy living or get busy dying.”

Today, let’s dissect this one little quote so that you can get an understanding of its magnitude and see how it can change the course of your future! We’re sure you can think of a dozen quotes that communicate the viewpoint of this concept as well, but we like this one.

“I can’t. I’m busy.” Are these familiar to you? Do you use them as an excuse not to get started on a new opportunity? The first question that you should ask yourself is, “What am I busy doing?” Do you know the difference between being active and being productive? A-HA! Had you thought of that before? It’s absolutely clear that this question is the single most critical one in our journey. Sure, you’ve been “busy” in your life or career but now you can look back and decide if you’ve been busy or productive. If you’ve been “busy,” you have a chance now to become productive instead.

Most people give these terms, “busy” and “productive,” a similar meaning - to them, it translates as, “getting things done.” However, there is a difference and it’s found in what we are getting done. Being “productive” means getting things done that NEED to be done in order to move forward. Being “busy” is simply getting things done with no regard to priority or importance.

Life contains polar opposites. Without them, we wouldn’t know what anything was. Things expand or shrink, moves forwards or backwards, in or out. If you aren’t moving your life forward; expanding, growing, progressing, then you’re dying.

The difference between “busy” and “productive” lays the groundwork of understanding the quote above. Either you are moving your life forward or you’re not … either you are busy living or busy dying!

Have you kept yourself busy with relatively unimportant work so as not to have to get dirty with the seemingly enormous tasks that would have the most impact on your life? Learn to differentiate between actions that keep you “busy” and those that make you “productive.” Don’t justify your decision by saying, “These things have to be done too”, or “I will just get this stuff out of the way first.”

Often it is the things we don’t do that ultimately have the largest impact on our businesses, careers or families. You will delay the achievements of the things you claim to be important to you by not getting your productive tasks completed first. If you took an honest look, would you say this has been true for you?

There came a point when we chose to make a different decision. We decided that each action required the question, “Does doing this keep us busy or productive?” We learned through this process that we were making conscious decisions. We were thoughtful about what we were putting our time into, and let us tell you, it’s had a HUGE impact on our lives. Who knew it could be so simple?

What do you want to do? Write a book? Submit an invention? Pursue a new career? You know what it is that would have an impact on your life and move it forward. If you don’t know, take a moment to consider the answer.

Have you thought about it over and over? What held you back? Why did you choose inaction over action? Were you too busy? Too scared of the unknown? Today is a new day. What is your decision today? Take a look at what you want; what are you going to do now? It’s just that simple. Make a decision.

When you decide to do, then everything becomes focused on the outcome. There is no busy work or excuses that you’ll allow to stand in your way. There’s no time to waste. When it’s a commitment to your life, nothing stands in the way of following through. Be empowered. You are productive and best of all, you are moving forward with your LIFE! You are busy living!

YOU NEVER GET TODAY AGAIN! Anything short of spending productive time on your life is time being wasted. You will never get it back. “Busy work” is “busy dying.” You have a choice and you can’t do both.

The only time to LIVE is right NOW! There is only one time that exists and that is NOW! This very instant you have a choice to “be productive” and live or to “be busy” and lose this time in your life forever.

Were you aware that it’s a choice? It is! It is yours and yours alone to make, but rest assured you can choose whatever it is you want. As our friend Mary Morrissey always says, “It is your life, make it a great one.”

Living With A Positive Outlook Can Decrease Your Stress

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Are you in touch with your intellectual wellness? In the first place, what is intellectual wellness? It is the ability to detect how one would think and feel to an event or information. If you care about your general welfare, you should be more sensitive in choosing the right things to concentrate on.

There are many mediums that provided the latest knowledge - there are books, of course. Then there are newspapers, magazines, internet sites, TV shows, news programs, movies, and even music. So what type of content are you focusing on? What type of communication do you receive through your snail mail, texts, and email?

In this age of technological advancement where so much information is so accessible, one should be careful about what they focus on. So much information can also be the cause of undue stress. Bad news that we allow into our consciousness might overwhelm us with negative thoughts if we allow these to do so.

If we listen to the news that deals with crimes and end of the world scenarios, we would easily get worries and stressed out. This is harmful to us. So, if we keep on listening to this stressful information, your situation deteriorates.

On the other end, if we choose not to read nor listen to these types of programs, but choose to focus on the positive values, life would have a more positive outlook.

If you remain a cynic, why don’t you take time to examine yourself for a week?

If you decide to experiment, try not to change your environment and your attitude intentionally when you go on your regular daily course. Keep tab of your reactions every time you choose either to read, to listen or to watch the things you normally would do. If you feel negative, then put a check on the feeling disturb side, but if you feel positive, put a check on the feeling good side. There should be at least a balance to both sides.

Understand that you do have a choice as to what you let in your mind. You do have the choice of making life a lot less stressful. You have the choice of leading a better, healthier, and more positive life.

How Parents Can Manage Housework Smoothly

Monday, September 20th, 2010

How often does it make your wonder how your neighbor manages to find time for exercise, keep her hair coiffed, her small garden tidy, attend to a home business and care for a household with five kids and a husband. You only have two school-age kids, a husband and a dog, but it seems like ages ago after your last session at the spa, the weeds have covered most of your garden and worst, school days seem to deplete your energy. Of course, you don’t want to live in the shadow of Martha Stewart, but being organized makes you more effective around the house.

Set a chore schedule weekly and break down the tasks as much as possible. Ask family members to pitch in and get things done. Perhaps your child can help you sort out used clothes for Monday’s laundry day.

Instead of an elaborate spread for breakfast that can take time to prepare, plan ahead for meals that may cut prep time in half. A healthy meal of cereals fortified with vitamins and minerals with a cup of milk and a bowl of fresh fruits take so little time to prepare.

The idea of school may seem boring for some children. Most of them will stall for time and move along lazily in the morning. Some will sit in front of the TV and pretend to watch the morning news with you.

Guidelines prevent delays when children bid for time by doing other activities not related to the tasks at hand every morning. Through this, they become conscious of time and you can re-direct their focus in such moments.

A well organized storage space for everything not only cuts time wasted in for searching for things, but is also convenient for everyone. It eliminates the chance to second guess where you could have placed something, and thus helps everyone keep track of their things.

A personal locker for each family member can work wonders to keep things organized. Children can be taught to dump their stuffs here - backpack, shoes, soccer uniforms, when they get home from school. This is one good way for you to organize their stuffs by season. Hats and gloves go to the locker room in winter to be replaced by swimsuits in summer.

Ultimately, there are days that are more busy than others. During these moments, stepping back from the chaos to take those invigorating deep breaths may be all you need to get you going through the day. Who knows, you might finally be able to squeeze in a well-deserved spa session in between.

The Scary Truth Regarding Speed Reading Programs

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Almost everything we do is information driven and in the world today, there is more information than there is time for most people to assimilate it. Students are not the only group who must read and process large amounts of text on a daily basis to keep up. Adults fall into this group as well. Good speed reading programs are a system to learn to overcome bad reading habits that may have been formed years ago and to focus on new reading habits that allow the individual to move through material much faster.

Reading quickly is not about moving from word to word as quickly as possible and retaining none of what was read or important. Programs that teach fast reading techniques focus on teaching the person how to view blocks of words rather than a single word at a time. They also teach the student how to pick out the most important ideas from those words and retrieve more information much more speedily.

There is no real mystery to most speed programs they teach basic skills that are meant to replace current ones which slow reading speed down and may impair comprehension of what was read. Most people were never taught the basic good habits, and are instead using poor reading habits because it is all they have. While good habits are not instinctive, neither was reading simple when first learned, and yet most people do it without thought now.

There are speed reading courses which focus upon the younger people and helping them to learn good habits when they are starting out. Normally children will benefit from these because they are maximizing the benefit of their study time by retaining more and reading is no longer a chore for most. Those these reading programs may not give a person a higher IQ score they may well make them seem a lot smarter. That is because the person may have a lot more information at their disposal because they read so quickly.

These reading programs, at one time were only offered in classes or seminars, which required a dedicated block of time. However, now there is software that contains the study materials and techniques that a person can learn to use to read faster. Not everyone benefits from software as opposed to formalized instruction.

Someone who works a lot or had irregular hours may prefer a software reading program because their schedule is erratic. Those who have a more regular schedule might choose based upon whether or not they find a quiet area to practice in as a lot of noise or traffic can make learning hard. However, the individual chooses to learn fast reading techniques, it will take practice.

One of the most frequent mistakes people make when trying to learn the techniques to read more quickly is to attempt material that is too difficult. When reading a Philosophy or math textbook or the Wall Street Journal a person may pause frequently to consider a point, or to do mental calculations. While reading through the latest popular novel usually requires little thought, it is all about enjoyment. Choose materials, which are lighter reading to being with, later the techniques can be applied to almost any reading material.

Reading comprehension improves often with speed reading programs. The reason is that a person is better able to focus on a task that is over quickly and where they can find the pertinent information on a page almost at a glance. On the other hand when a person must plod through the material they can easily become bored and distracted. The choice of the right speed reading course should be based upon how quiet the home is, how old the student is and whether they are able to set aside time to attend class or prefer to learn at home.

speed reading programs is the best way to improve your life quality. when you learn how to read better and faster, or try speed reading exercises and tips you will read better and gain more free time to yourself and your family with speed reading programs
