Time Management Skills

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

As a Life Coach, and after coaching many different clients, I’ve come to realize that to effectively manage time, we need to first recognize that time itself can’t be managed! We all get 7 days a week and 168 hours within those 7 days. This cannot be increased or altered in in any manner. Nevertheless, what we can change, enhance and manage is ourselves. Essentially then, true time management now becomes management of ourselves - “self management!”

You may say “I don’t possess the time to commit to understanding some time management skills”. I hear this a lot throughout life coaching sessions, but the fact is if this had been correct, do you really believe you possess the time not to?

Time management principles and methods are usually very simple to learn. They don’t need deep thinking, a high I.Q or plenty of preparation. In fact if you were to put the search term “Time Management Resources” into a search engine, you will get a bunch of websites offering assistance, advice, ideas and suggestions on how to manage and prioritize your time.

To sum time management up, I’d say you must ask yourself a couple of questions:

1. Do I physically have enough time to complete the tasks which are required of me? We just have so much time. Occasionally it is not always physically possible to fit everything in. If this really is the case then you need to prioritize and drop several of the low priority task/activities to claim some time back.

2. Do I fully optimize and use my time effectively? If the answer is NO then you might want to learn and implement a little time management principles and methods.

Below is a list of a few time management (self management) techniques and tips that I use in the course of life coaching. You may find a couple of them helpful yourself. They are in no specific order.

* Find out when (what time of the day?) you work most efficiently.

* Establish your priorities for what you want to get done. Identify the tasks and activities that are the highest priority and get rid of those of low priority.

* Permit more time than you think you will need. This makes your schedule flexible and enables for the unexpected.

* Find yourself in the habit of making use of your odd five minutes here and there much more productively. Do not simply dismiss it as just 5 minutes - they add up throughout the week!

* Accomplish one or two important jobs instead of lots unimportant ones.

* Keep a calendar/diary. Mark all your essential dates/tasks.

* Have a list of “Things to Do” and mark them off as done.

* Every day make a list of what you have to do tomorrow.

* When possible, do the unpleasant tasks first.

* Tidiness makes your life simpler and reduces stress.

* Permit time to relax, recharge and do nothing.

* Leave time in your schedule for un-planned activities.

Time Management Principles To Obtain Business And Personal Life Success

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Ever asked yourself just how some small company owners and managers continually appear cool and in control, frequently getting away in plenty of time for weekends? But many other company managers tend to be continuously in crisis mode, fighting fires, attending to the tyranny of the urgent and even working 70 hour weeks. Every excellent business coaching system lays a major emphasis on personal time management skills as one of the points which will assist a business owner to attain mastery of their company as well as their own life.

The following are a handful of the time management skills that will assist you to become a successful company owner or manager:

Be Organized - Being organized and structured will be the very first step to dealing with ones own time in a better way. Have your month-to-month work schedule drawn up well ahead of the time and have a proper scheduler. Constantly keep an organizer on hand and program your tasks appropriately. Prioritize the assignments at hand. Develop a list of things to do every day and record all things to do irrespective of their particular size. Create a new log book to log your actions and review this log book each and every week to find the exercises that are squandering your time. Make an effort to get rid of the unproductive time wasting pursuits from your schedule.

Action Plan - Document the action plan of the day around the start of each and every day. You can do this either following your morning work out or you can chart it the previous night prior to going to bed.

Delegation - Conserve as much time as achievable through delegating your chores to other people. Issues which do not need your instant attention can be passed over to your subordinates and other assistants. However at the same time, keep these people motivated to ensure that they take responsibility of the task allocated to them. Recognize them for their contribution properly.

Procrastination - This is really a very bad factor in time management. Complete the job at the time you have timetabled it to be carried out and do not postpone it. Always try to beat the work deadlines, instead of just achieving them.

Tackling the work - Undertake the most challenging work initially and then do the straightforward work. When you finish off the hard jobs first, you will be left with a good deal of time for you to complete the small simple jobs. Additionally you will be able to do the difficult tasks more quickly if you understand their particular importance and prioritize effectively.

Negative thoughts - Keep clear of any negative thoughts and stay apart from negative individuals. Negative thinking saps your energy and results in you being too exhausted to do anything. Maintain a constructive perspective on your work and routine.

Home Based Business - Get Rid Of Time Wasters

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Every home based business owner can attest to the fact that there are never enough hours in the day. Thus, it is of the utmost importance that you efficiently manage your time throughout the day. We will attempt to show you what every home based business owner should be doing daily in order to make the most out of each hour of each day.

Here are some things which you absolutely must consider.

1) Stop associating with that which consumes your time, and gives you no benefit. I am not only talking about your friend who wants to go for the early bird happy hour at two o’clock in the afternoon, I am also talking about the things which interrupt your work throughout the day. Cutting the following wasters of time out of your day is essential to time management:

a) Social Networking Websites: If you find that you are devoting in excess of a half hour to personal messaging, then you are wasting time.

b) Telephone Interruptions: If you answer the phone live more than five times per day during your productive time (ie. work at home time) you are sacrificing time management and efficiency. When you answer the phone, you interrupt your current productive flow, which destroys your productivity.

c) Television: The boob tube must be limited for you to achieve ultimate control over your time. My recommendation is thirty minutes per day, especially if you are not getting all the things done you need or want to. If you have a DVR, you can record whatever you want to watch, and skip through the commercials in order to save time.

2) Make a list of the most important things which you absolutely need to complete each day. One of the best things that you can do to adequately manage your time, is put a list of tasks together which has been prioritized. You have to know what must be done every day, and then take action to do it. This is the day of new technology. While this new technology has enabled us to work at home, it has also given us many things which compete for our attention. If you allow such distractions to become priorities, you will not have enough time to complete your work. Consider doing the following:

a) Put together a list of the things which you need to get done each day;

b) Generate time frames for the accomplishment of each item;

c) Arrange each item in accordance with its importance;

d) Develop a plan of action which will give you the ability to accomplish your goals within your set time frame.

3) While going through the daily operations of your home based business, begin to focus on time management. Your consistent focus must be on managing your time. Once you have determined what your goals and priorities are, begin focusing on simply completing those goals in their respective order. If something is not on your list of goals for this week, do not spend precious time on it until all of your goals have been completed. If you allow every interruption to become a priority, you will not accomplish your goals. Rather, you will be in debt to interruptions, and probably feel like you never accomplish enough.

Dalliance and Home Based Business do not mix very well. Take full advantage of your Business Opportunitiesby determining which time wasters you can do away with. Make sure that you drop by and visit us at SOSComplete.com
