Recessions: A Great Time to Reassess

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Generally, people rarely even notice that an economic recession is happening because the administration is usually swift to act on it, and because of its power they are able to stabilize the nation’s economy before much damage is done. All the same, recently, the efforts of the administration and their plans were not sufficient to stop this downward spiral of the economic system.

Because of rising prices in gas hitting on the costs of essential items we use every day, people are scrimping on their purchases and this has impacted companies, making more job losses and money strains. The real estate industry has also crashed leaving numerous foreclosed properties because people just can’t pay the monthly premium anymore.

The aforementioned goes with the bank and insurance spheres who are also experiencing the heat of the economic downturn. Present are some of the matters that you should know about how a recession involves your everyday life and the things that it can do to you if you don’t watch out. It can force unemployment upon you - economic slowdown is a period recognized for job losses when the call for for merchandise lessens and businesses lose their money - the only way they can endure is to cut labor. They can rationalize this as there will also be reduction in production, so if you are one of the unfortunate few who are employed by a firm experiencing such losses, you could lose your job.

In order to gear up for this eventuality, try to research into the financial strength of your employer and listen to the office gossip regarding prospective redundancy. Ordinarily, you will know if a company is losing money so if you feel that your company is losing money, make a support plan just in case you become jobless. This is especially true if you are working in the assembly line. It can make life worse - prices will from time to time be high throughout an economic slowdown as a reduced supply of wares will cause a rise in the costs. Although the government will try to help out by introducing tax cuts, this may not be of any use particularly if there have been numerous people made redundant.

Normally families often attempt to stint on their day to day expenses, no longer going for their regular entertainment - although, it has been seen that picture show ticket sales go up during a period of economic recession. This is perhaps because individuals want to blank out their issues for a spell and just delight in the world of fantasy. It is not going to be forever - one bright thing that individuals can look ahead to is the fact that economic slowdown is not go to last forever. As mentioned before, recession is part of a cycle and when you are down, the only way you can go is up, that is why, for the meantime the goal during these challenging times is to ride the waves and live.

Understanding your personal profile

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Are you one of those people who always seem to struggle with time management? Do you spend hours starting and inventing hypothetical solutions but dont seem to get many of them done? Do you experience a lot of stress due to undone tasks regardless of your good intentions?

Do you have these symptoms? Spending your last few days of December doing well overdue travel expenses? Do you invent new diaries, planners (computer or paper based), only to yet again be looking for that confounded small piece of paper that you wrote some important details onto?

You are in need of a system that will make time management work for you. Whatever the system that you select to organize your thoughts, actions, contacts and diary, you still need the discipline and consistency to stick to one system for long enough for it to work.

Flat file paper notebooks and diaries dont seem to work for creative and innovative people. We have a need for colour and illustrations and practicality. Perhaps you also prefer a system that is always close at hand. If you are inclined to use colour and mind mapping and other graphically visible systems I suggest that you choose your stationery and your pens carefully.

What are the benefits of having a time and information management system? You can make such notes quickly before you go to bed, have breakfast, or while you watch the news on TV. Why would you want to make such notes at such times? Firstly, because 10 minutes later you have forgotten. Secondly, simply because you can, and because it creates the space for you to be your expressive self when you are doing other important things!

Accept that your brain is wired in a certain way and that you create the paper or electronic systems that will provide maximum means to capitalize on your invaluable if not ingenious thought processes. Im not just writing this to falsely compliment you either. Take some positive steps today that will help you learn about yourself and then capitilise on that knowledge.

If you spend some time in creating that elusive system that will work for you, fight off the temptation to depart from it and only effect changes with the discipline of a computer systems change manager! In other words, adapt and change and evolve your system by all means, but keep the consistency at all costs. Contact the author if you would like some more information on this subject.

Letting God Open Doors for You

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Late last year, I was in prayer seeking the Lord about goals and expectations for 2009. Of course, I had high aspirations as my new book, Letters from the Fathers Heart, was just published in November 2008. As I prayed and asked the Lord for direction for the new year, I heard Him speak to me very clearly about what was in store for 2009. He said to me that 2009 is the year of the open door.

What exactly does the year of the open door mean to us as believers? God has shown me that the words that He spoke to me do not just apply to me personally, but to every Christian who will grab hold of those words and accept them. I want you to stop for a minute and think about doors that have been closed in your life. What things have you tried to accomplish that you just cant seem to make happen? What areas have you struggled to move into freedom? Have you faced closed doors in your business or career? Your marriage? Your relationship with God? Maybe in ministry efforts, or in trying to share the Gospel with an lost friend or loved one? Every one of us has faced closed doors in many areas of our lives. The Lord has spoken to me that 2009 is the year that all of that changes, if you will step up to the plate and trust Him to change it.

I want you to visualize with me for a minute that you are standing in a corridor with a huge bolted door in front of you. Behind that shut door lies the key to what you have been seeking, regardless of what it is. You know that if you can just get through that locked door you will launch out into everything that God has for you. For a long time you have been fixated looking at that door and you have had no solution for getting through it. You have asked God and had faith, but the door has continued to remain closed. Now imagine the Father standing right there with you, and He says to you, son / daughter, this is the year of the open door. Now see your Heavenly Father reaching out and unlocking that shut door and opening it wide for you to step inside and walk into the victory that He has laid out for you.

Begin now to diligently seek the Father for His heart regarding the closed doors that you have been facing. Sometimes the Father wants a door that is closed to be open to you, but at other times He may want a door that appears to be open to be closed so that He can bring about something even more powerful in your life. Ask Him to open every door that He wants open and to close every door that He wants closed. Begin to take the example above and apply it to every area of your life where He reveals to you that He wants the door to be open.

Wherever there have been closed doors that you have faced, see your Heavenly Father opening that door for you. He will be faithful to perform the words that He has spoken, if you will simply believe Him to act on your behalf. Believe Him to open every door that He has for you this year. This is the year for you to walk through the doors that have been closed. Believe God to move powerfully on your behalf and no door can stand in your way.

Tips on How to Work Less and Earn More

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Do you ever feel as though there are just not enough hours in the day? Do you struggle trying to balance both work and family? This article will provide you with a few tips on how to earn more while working less.

One critical key to earning more and working less is being organized. Most people who earn six or seven figures and only work part-time, are highly organized. In addition to being organized you need to prioritize. May of us spend 80% of our time doing things that only make 20% of the difference in our lives. Top income earners, know exactly what matters most and that’s what they spend there time doing. They skip or delegate everything else.

Step 1 — Get organized and prioritize. Create a list of everything you want or need to get done in your life, in your home and in your business or job. That may seem like an unreasonable request but it will not be as hard you think. Sit down and start listing things you either want or need to get done in no particular order. As they pop into your head write them down or if you already have several “to do” lists and sticky notes, locate them all and compile them on one long list. Your “to do” list is finite, despite what you might be thinking right now, and in reality it will probably only take you a couple of hours to create.

Step 2 - Take a good look at the items on your list and decide what items will make the most impact on your income and quality of life. The best way to do this is to sit in silence for 20 minutes and meditate over your list. The most impactful items on your list will start becoming apparent to you. Highlight those items.

Step 3 - Move all of the highlighted items from your list into your calendar. Schedule when you are going to do each one and be realistic when determining how much time to allow for each “to do” item. For example, you might schedule one of item for Wednesday from 7am-9am, another one on Friday from 8pm-10pm, and so on.

If you are unable to get all of the items into your calendar within the next two weeks, then you need to refine your highlighted list again before entering them into your schedule.

This simple three-step process will help you get organized, focus on the 20% that will make the biggest impact on your income and quality of life and it will help prevent you from taking on more tasks than you can handle effectively. If you are unable to complete a task during the scheduled time, re-schedule the task for another time. Treat your tasks like they are important meetings because they are.

Once you fully switch from keeping a running “to do” list to scheduling every task, you will feel more relaxed, be more efficient, have more time and you will get more done. “To Do” lists tend to be weights on our shoulders. They make us feel like we will never be caught up, never get it all done and often they cause us to focus on the least important tasks.

When you have a running “to do” list you are more likely to stress over what you need to get done because you don’t know when or how it’s going to get done. By just scheduling what needs to get done, you can relax because it will get done when it’s time to do it. You know you won’t forget because it’s in your calendar, you have made an appointment with yourself to get it done. No more stressing or agonizing over it. Even if it’s just a simple task like making a phone call, if it’s in your schedule you know you won’t forget about it and you will get it done.

Leave open space in your calendar for interruptions and putting out fires. Also, schedule family time, exercise time, alone time, mealtime and organization time. Organization time is for things like going through your mail, doing filing, cleaning and those sorts of things. You also want to leave open space in your calendar for new and fun things to come into your life. This will help keep you organized and in balance.

3 Methods of Managing Your Life

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

To really improve your life you need to act more like a manager and less like a employee. Sure, you can try hard, but in if you’re not the one in control then all your work is going to improve things for someone else and not yourself. You can manage your way to a better life!

By acting more like a boss you give yourself a deeper stake in the outcome of your behavior and you feel as though you’re working for yourself instead of someone else. To act more like a boss you simply have to treat yourself like a factory instead of a person. You get to call the shots and you get to say what goes.

Managing Finances: Sure, you know you have control over how you spend your money, but you also have control over how you make your money. Working for someone else is just that: working. The best way to really make big money is to take some simple steps to start your own business. Consider taking some classes, reading some books and just brainstorming for something you can do on the side, when you’re not working, to make a few dollars. Don’t work for someone else, make sure you’re working for your self.

Managing Your Wellness: You control not only what you eat, but the actions you take. By taking charge and treating your body like a factory you can begin managing it as a manager might control an assembly line. The more good food you eat and the more you exercise, the more efficient and powerful your body is. If you’re having a difficult time being motivated, try to imagine yourself a little cartoon manager who literally controls how your body moves and acts.

Manage Your Time: We all want more time and we all complain about not having enough. The key to time management is a little bit of planning mixed with a little bit of flexibility Again, just doing things for the sake of doing them is not good enough. You need to treat your schedule as a manager would: prioritize the things that have to get done and the things that need to get done. Once your gain control over your time everything else will fall into place.

Becoming a manager of your finances, your wellness and your time will pay you back a million fold as you improve your management skills. Stop being a worker and give yourself a promotion - right to the manager’s office!
